Boston Road Reconstruction

1/14/25 Update: After the morning commute on Thursday, January 16th, our contractor will shift the northbound traffic to the westbound side of Boston Road. The roadway impacted is between Danforth Village and Simmons Lane. Appropriate signage, police details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area.

1/13/25 Update: As part of the Boston Road North Reconstruction project, utility relocations are required at various locations along Boston Road.  Comcast service will be transferred on Boston Road January 16th, starting at 8:00PM (night work). This operation will consist of temporary closures on Boston Road for crews to access the aerial lines. There will be no interruption of service to residents. All fiber will be transferred from utility poles that remain on the west side of Boston Road to the newly installed utility poles on the east side of Boston Road. In addition the contractor will be shifting northbound traffic to the west side of Boston Road on Thursday, 1/16/25 after the morning commute clears.

1/3/25 Update:  MassDOT will be implementing a temporary lane shift on a section of Boston Road extending from south of Danforth Village to North of Simmons Lane. The lane shift begins at 8am on Monday January 6th and is anticipated to be in place for approximately 2 weeks. All work is weather dependent and subject to change without notice. This will allow the Contractor to perform roadway reconstruction in the median section of Boston Road. Direct access will be maintained for All side streets. Residence and Business access will be maintained thru U-turns that will be set up at Heritage Road, Good Street and Tom Glavine Way. Appropriate signage, police details, and messaging will be in place to guide drivers through the work area. Drivers should expect delays, reduce speeds, and use caution.

7/25/24 Modified Update: Paving on Friday, July 26, has been cancelled. Paving operations have been rescheduled for Monday, 7/29 for the westerly side of Boston Road (from Good Street to Danforth Village) during the hours of 6am-4pm.  Boston Road will be open for two-way traffic and Tom Glavine Way will be temporarily closed during this time detouring traffic down Good Street. All side streets and driveways impacted by paving operations will receive temporary ramps and will be operational by close of shift.  Please expect delays and avoid the area if possible. Police details will assist with direction of traffic. Please do not park on Boston Road or Good Street within the limits of the project. Also, please turn off your irrigation system.

7/25/24 Update:  On Friday, July 26, our contractor will resume paving the westerly side of Boston Road (from Good Street to Danforth Village) during the hours of 6am-4pm. Boston Road will be open for two-way traffic and Tom Glavine Way will be temporarily closed during this time detouring traffic down Good Street.  All side streets and driveways impacted by paving operations will receive temporary ramps and will be operational by close of shift. 7/19/24 Update:  On Monday, July 22nd, during the hours of 5am-4pm our contractor will be paving the westerly side of Boston Road (from Simmons Lane to Danforth Village).  On Tuesday, July 23rd, during the hours of 5am-4pm our contractor will be paving Boston Road and Good Street. On Wednesday, July 24th, during the hours of 7am -5pm, Boston Road will be paved.  Boston Road will be open for two-way traffic. Good Street will be closed on Tuesday and a detour will be in place.  Residents will be able to access their driveways and local businesses during construction, but please expect delays and avoid the area if possible.  Police details will assist with direction of traffic. Please do not park on Boston Road or Good Street within the limits of the project. Also, please turn off your irrigation system.

6/27/24 Update:   Mass Electric Construction Company will be transferring wires to the new utility poles on June 29, starting at 8PM for approximately 4 hours.  Work limits are between Town Hall and River Street.  This nighttime work will include a temporary closure of Boston Road to traffic.  Traffic will be detoured to Andover Road, Pond Street, and Salem Road. We anticipate minor noise impacts associated with the work.  This work requires the use of bucket trucks that are equipped with backup alarms for safety.  Mass Electric Construction Co. has been notified to monitor noise to lessen impact on members of the community.

6/21/24 Update:  Monday, June 24th through Friday, June 28th, Good Street will be closed between Boston Rd and the Fire Department driveway for Roadway reconstruction. This section of Good Street will remain closed throughout the week, with access for Emergency Vehicles and abutting properties only.

3/20/24 Update:   On Wednesday, March 20th, a portion of Boston Road northbound will be closed for paving. Northbound traffic will be diverted onto Andover Road, then onto Pond Street to Salem Road and back onto Boston Road.

3/18/24  Update:  On Wednesday, March 20th, our contractor will be paving 2 lanes on the east side of Boston Road (from Simmons Lane to Danforth Village) during 7am-4pm. On Thursday, March 21st, our contractor will be painting temporary line striping during 7am-4pm.  Boston Road will be open for two-way traffic. Please expect delays and avoid the area if possible. Please do not park on Boston Road. Residents will be able to access their driveways and local businesses will be accessible during construction with minimal delays. Police details will assist with direction of traffic.

1/8/24 Update:  J. Tropeano Inc. will continue underground conduit installation for National Grid, Verizon, and Comcast.  Conduit is currently complete from Heritage Road to Town Hall. Dagle Electric will continue installing utility pole risers as a subcontractor for J. Tropeano Inc.  In the upcoming weeks, Mass Electric will transfer fiber to the new utility poles as a contractor for Raytheon.

10/13/23 Update:  J. Tropeano Inc. will continue drainage structure installation along Boston Road and Good Street working south towards the town center.  Dagle Electric will continue installing mast arms for traffic signals at Heritage Road, Boston Road and Good Street. Mass Electric will transfer fiber optics to the new utility poles in the upcoming weeks.

6/30/2023 Update:  Phoenix Communications will be transferring wires to the new utility poles on July 5, starting at 8PM for approximately 8 hours.  Work limits are between Town Hall and River Street.  This night time work will include a temporary closure of Boston Road to traffic for approximately 30-35 minutes for wires spanning across Boston Rd.  We anticipate minor noise impacts associated with the work.  Bucket trucks are equipped with backup alarms and the workers will need the use of power tools to perform the work.  Noise will be monitored to minimize impacts on residents.  We apologize for the inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience.

5/1/2023 Update:  There will be daily lane closures on Boston Road throughout the construction season.  The Contractor, J. Tropeano, Inc., will continue with drainage installation on the east side of Boston Road from Simmons Lane to Heritage Road through May.  National Grid Gas is performing gas pipe relocation on Boston Road, Farmers Lane and Good Street for the next two weeks and should begin main connections and service transfers in early May.  National Grid Electric / Asplundh is working on utility pole & guy wire installation, and will continue to coordinate the transfer of utilities from old poles to new poles in the next few weeks. Removal of old wire should begin the second week of May.

Please be advised construction on the Boston Road Reconstruction Project is ongoing. During the project, two-way travel along Boston Road will be maintained.  At times, police details will limit traffic around the work crews to one travel lane at a time.  Motorists driving through the corridor during the midday should expect a delay in travel time.

This work is part of a $11 million transportation improvement project and is currently scheduled to be completed in 2026.
